You need help to groom your Lagotto´s?
Is the Lagotto easy to care for?
The breed description often states that the Lagotto is an easy-care dog because its woolly coat means it doesn't shed and therefore doesn't need to be brushed, but simply shaved a few times a year!
Unfortunately, after several years of caring for Lagotto Romagnolo dogs, and not just my own, I cannot say that.
It's true that Lagotto Romagnolo dogs don't shed like other breeds, as dead hairs get trapped in their curls and don't fall out. Therefore, you don't constantly find dog hair all over your home. However, this also means their coat is prone to matting if it isn't properly groomed or cared for at all. Furthermore, everything found in fields and meadows gets caught in the Lagotto's woolly coat (burrs, awns, grass seeds, etc.). And no Lagotto will be deterred by a mud puddle, and cowpats or horse droppings are equally tempting, perfect for a roll in...
You can imagine what a Lagotto's coat looks like after such a bath.
Therefore, in my opinion, a Lagotto with well-groomed, curly, non-matted hair is actually quite high-maintenance, especially if you plan to take the dog to one or more dog shows.

Then a private one to one session or one of my seminars could be just right for you!
In this full day beginner seminar, I will show you in a small group how to groom and trim your Lagotto yourself at home. The aim is to give you the knowledge, confidence and practical experience you need to do it on your own.
We start in the morning with the theoretical part, covering many different topics.
• Do you know the Lagotto breed standard?
• What are the differences in coat structure?
• How can you train your dog to feel comfortable on the grooming table?
• What equipment do you need for everyday grooming?
• How do you use the equipment correctly?
• How do you wash your Lagotto properly?
• How do you brush the coat correctly?
• What should you pay particular attention to?
• Are you unsure about nail and ear care?
• And much more.
After the theoretical part, I will demonstrate everything live with a Lagotto. I will show you how I wash and brush the dog and how I prepare the coat for trimming.
Before the lunch break, you will also have the opportunity to brush your own Lagotto under my guidance.
After lunch, we continue step by step with the practical part. I will explain each stage and support you directly while you work with your own dog. The goal is for you to go home with a Lagotto you have groomed and trimmed yourself and, most importantly, with the confidence to do it again at home.

If you do not have scissors, clippers or a grooming table, please let me know in advance.

Important preparation
Please brush and wash your Lagotto one day before the seminar. The coat should be as free from mats and tangles as possible.
