Beginners Guide

What shouldn't be underestimated is:

RING TRAINING is the be-all and end-all.

to prepare yourself and your dog for shows!

What is my rating and what exactly does that mean?

If I win in my class - what happens next?

What means:

  • CAC = (Certificat d'Aptitude au Championat) Qualification for the national champion title
  • CACIB = (Certificat d'Aptitude au Championat International de Beauté) Qualification for the international champion title
  • BOS = (Best Opposite Sex) the best male and the best female of a breed
  • BOB = (Best of Breed) the best BOS dog of the breed
  • BIS = (Best in Show) the most beautiful dog out of all the BOB dogs at a show
  • BOG = (Best of Group) at international (CACIB) shows, the best of the FCI groups
  • BOD = (Best of Day) the daily winners, which are determined from the BOG at two-day exhibitions

In the baby class and youngest class, you can:

  • Promising - VV
  • Promising - V
  • Not promising

to reach. In the other classes:

  • Excellent – V
  • Very Good – SG
  • Good – G
  • Sufficient – Gng
  • Disqualified or without evaluation
  • Out of competition

The first four will be ranked. For example, V1, V2, SG3, SG4. Dogs rated "Good" will not be ranked!

Normally, the dog with a V1 (Excellent 1) in its class receives the CAC (Certificate of Aptitude for Championship), while the dog with a V2 (Excellent 2) receives the Reserve CAC (which can be used for the dog that already holds the CAC and therefore no longer needs the CAC). However, there are also judges who award a V1 without any CACs.

In the youth class The male and female dogs awarded V1 (Excellent 1) receive the Junior Best award. At smaller shows, both sexes compete in the main ring in some countries for Junior Best BOB (Best of Breed), while at larger shows (for example, the World Dog Show), one of the two is chosen by the judge to enter the main ring.

In the intermediate class All dogs ranked V1 of the respective sex compete for the CACIB (all dogs except Junior Class, Veteran Class and Veteran Class).

The CACIB is the qualification for the International Champion title.

For example: The V1 Intermediate Class bitch is judged against the V1 Open Class and V1 Champion Class bitches. From these bitches, the CACIB bitch, i.e., the best bitch, is then chosen. The same process applies to the males. Analogous to the awarding of the CAC, the judge can also decide not to award a CAC.

Finally, the dogs run around the BOB, the Best of Breed – the best of the breed.

The best junior, both CACIBs, both veteran class dogs, and the honor class dogs compete for Best of Breed (BOB/BOS).

This dog is then entitled to compete in the honorary ring for the BOG, to run the Best of Group (i.e., the respective FCI group).

The BOG runs around at the end of the event. UNTIL, the Best in Show or, in smaller shows, the best of the day.

The two best performers of the day then compete together on Sunday for Best in Show.

What titles can be achieved at dog shows?
